See those buckets hanging from the back of The Old Mill? From 1993 onwards, guests could take a ride in a classic ferris wheel attraction here. Indeed, the mill itself was in place and opened as a food kiosk from opening day, this attraction didn't open with the park in 1992. It was added as part of a series of quick capacity-boosting additions to the park, including walk-throughs such as Legends of the Wild West and Storybook Land just beyond the railroad.
Cleverly, the Imagineers re-imagined their original creation to become an attraction in its own right. The buckets are supported by what appears be a giant tree truck, and motored by a huge cogwheel and crank fixed into the back of the mill. Unfortunately, the attraction proved to have too little capacity, and, in the early 2000s, when similar features across the park were scaled back, it too saw its final riders.
Since then, the buckets have only been graced by Christmas decorations and even the sails of the windmill have long since turned regularly, despite The Old Mill continuing to do good business.
